Emergency Medical Technician - Re-qualification

Course Aims
To update and re-qualify delegates in the knowledge and skills required to deal with medical and trauma emergencies beyond the scope of basic first aid.
Suitable For
Any person already holding an Emergency Medical Technician qualification which is nearing its expiry.
Course Length
3 Days, (9am to 5pm and 6.30pm to 8.pm on day 1 for vehicle extrication exercise)
Pre-requisite
Previous EMT qualification or equivalent. Certification
Successful delegates will be awarded:
  • An EMT certificate is valid for 1 year and recognised by the European Association of EMT's and Paramedics for membership at EMT Defibrillation level.
  • An AED certificate which is valid for 1 year.
  • A Laryngeal Mask Airways certificate from the LMA makers Intavent.
Course Venue
Closed courses are held at training venues in Norwich or alternatively, courses can be arranged at your venue anywhere in the UK (subject to its suitability).
Syllabus
  • Oro-pharyngeal airway
  • Oral suction
  • Pulse oximetry and manual blood pressure
  • Pain relief and Entonox administration
  • Head, Chest and Abdominal trauma heart conditions
  • Vehicle extricating (outdoor session)
  • Patient examination and assessment
  • Laryngeal Mask Airway®
  • Primary survey and interventions
  • Oxygen administration (therapy & I.P.P.V.)
  • Advisory external defibrillation
  • Crash helmet removal
  • Use of spinal board (long board)
  • Pain relief and Entonox administration
Knowledge and skills assessments (carried out by external assessors who are State Registered ambulance professionals.
